Caranthir walks among the trees of Doriath.

Child-voice. A boy - no, two boys - and an adult.

Familiar. He investigates, a low chuckle escaping him as he walks.

The wind shifts and Dior picks up on the change in the air, years of his father's words and lessons and melodies filling the silences between the rustling trees and whistling breeze.

He has known these lands too long to not trust his instincts for them.

Externally unperturbed, he keeps walking at his leisurely pace, smiling softly at his boys' wonder-filled explorations. But all the sharpened weapons adorning his body are keenly felt, and his watch over his sons grows more refined.

So familiar - DIOR. Caranthir's hands alternately stretch and curl into tight fists.

"Lovely day, isn't it?" He smiles, just a bit unsettlingly.

Flat grey eyes immediately settle on Caranthir as he casually sticks his hands in his pockets against the autumn chill.

"Caranthir." His smile is tentative frost curling on window panes as he coolly regards the Noldo.

Smile barely moving, Valinorean accent played up just a little. "Dior. I had heard that many had returned." He regards the Sinda and his children coolly.

"Mm, apparently," he replies dryly, shifting the weight on his feet, rolling from heel to toe and back to feel the flowing of gravity through each position. "The weather's great, actually. Probably a lot warmer than up in the mountainous regions."

"Mh. So it seems. And so much nicer than Mandos." His voice lowers to a near-whisper. "Do you remember? The cold? The unending gray?"

"Not really," Dior remarks lightly. "Me being not quite immortal and all that. I think I ran through Elysian fields or something like that. It's a bit early for morbidity, don't you think, Caranthir?"

He laughs softly. "Ah, yes, I had almost forgotten...Perhaps it is, though I find it only fuels my desire not to be lain low again."

These words ring sour. Once burnt twice shy? When does one know warmth? But, he lifts a careless shoulder distantly, already turning away from Caranthir. "The power of positive thinking, Caranthir. I've been reborn. I choose to live."

The twins come pelting out of the trees again to find their father talking to another. Their eyes widen as the recognise who it is, Elurín turning and shimying up a tree while Eluréd ducks behind Dior, growling in a manner very like a wild animal.

Caranthir's smile widens. Any malice he bears the boys is well-hidden - or is he sadistically pleased that they remember him so well?

Dior lays a hand on Eluréd's shoulder, sharp eyes scrutinizing every emotion and gesture crossing Caranthir's face. "I don't believe you've ever been properly introduced to my two sons."

Bending down to Eluréd's level, Dior gently brings his son in front of him, bracing his two small shoulders with steady, comforting hands. His gaze, fixed upon his son's face, is steel assurance. Caranthir will not hurt you any more. Be at peace, my love.

"Eluréd, this is Caranthir, son of Fëanor."
